loving italy!

Hi!

I've lost track of how long I've been in Rovigo but I think it's around one and half months. I know that I only have about 4 months left and that really freaks me out! I try not to think about it to much though. I'm pleased to find that I've been using the dictionary less and less, in fact it's only brought out every once in awhile when there's an unfamalier word. I think I have a good grasp on the technicalities of the language. For an example I don't have to ask how to say the 'we' form or the 'her' form for every verb...all I need to know is the infinative form and the rest tends to come natrually. The most difficult part now is just remebering new words! The sentence structer comes natrually now too, I'm learning the speaking pattern of the Italian language and that makes me so happy! It's still difficult though because there are so many words I don't know. But I think it'll be easier to speak better now that I know the pattern natrually. I can understand almost everything if it's spoken clearly and slowly, as before. Basically just to sum it all up I'm happy with where I am with the language and it continues to get easier every day!

Some things that Italians do that still really just don't make any sense to me are the following:
- slippers in the house at all times. Why not just socks...?! I mean I understand that sometimes people have cold feet but socks keep my feet warm just the same! Not complaining though, I've gotten in the habit of wearing slippers at home all the time and it's nice but it just seems like one extra thing to do!
- the driving. Why do people have to drive like total maniacs??? Like Italians are slow at everything else, they like to take their time while they eat, walk, shop, basically everything. But then they get in the car and suddenly everything is in fast forward for no reason!
- Umbrellas for snow. I guess I can understand it for rain (although we tend to just use our hoods..in Maine at least haha) but for snow I don't get it! Snow is soft...and it's not like you get soaking wet from it.
- BIDETS! Italians do not shower every day. But I have been told over and over that they are 'clean people because they wash in bits and pieces', with the bidet...I guess it saves water so maybe it does kind of make sense, but I still don't get how bidets work..
- Yelling all the time. Everyone always gestures to their friend or something and is like 'she's basically deaf, she can't hear anything'... and I just think to myself OF COURSE SHE CAN'T HEAR ANYTHING! Everyone is always yelling in each others ears! Now it doesn't bother me so much but in the beginning I was like if this is how it's gonna be I will need to go buy some more advil..but either I've lost hearing so it sounds quieter, or I'm used to it. But if people just spoke at a normal level then no one would have bad hearing and foreigners wouldn't be freaked out!

I could go on, really. but I don't want it to get boring for you! I went to the dentist the other day because I had a bad tooth, just to have the dentist look at it. I would just like to mention that it didn't cost anything! Healthcare is good here. Anyways it just ended up being a wisdom tooth so I don't know if I'll have it removed or what but we will see, I think it will be fine because it doesn't hurt so much anymore.

Yesterday was the festa della donna which is basically a day to celebrate women! Everyone says 'auguri' to girls all day which is like 'happy day' and it's so nice! I really think we should have that. And they get flowers and stuff. America should def develop a womens day.

So school continues to be really boring...but at least now I can have conversations with my teachers as long as they aren't about classes because I don't know that vocab, hahaha. I'm still eating lots of delecious food, some of my favorite dishes are minestra soup which is just a really basic soup with noodles but it's sooo good! I eat it with lots of parmision cheese, and we have it every night for the first course of dinner. I also love the coffee here, in any form! And all the pasta dishes, they're cooked a different way every time and its sooo goodddd. The weather is starting to warm up now, it's like a real spring which is nice. Anyways I'm in economy class and it's about to end so I have to go! Ciao!
