A Tropical Christmas
I have never felt relief like I did upon arriving at Anantara Resort in Phuket, Thailand where I was greeted by my grandmother and uncle. The kids, my two little cousins were fast asleep in the very nice appartment my grandmother had rented for the week. It was 11pm or so, my flight landed at 10:30 and I had taken a taxi to the resort. I sat down and ate some fruit and told my family about the past hectic days in Cambodia.
I think where I left off last post was right after taking the hotel bus to Sihankorville. Well let me tell you, it only got worse after that! We went out that night for a little bit, and when we got home everything was fine. I felt completely normal until I threw up. I figured it was just something I ate. But it didn't stop. I woke up the next morning and continued to vomit at least 5 or 6 times an hour until 2'oclock pm when my friends took me to the hospital. They took blood and did some tests. I stayed the night and was given 2 drip IV's for hydration and some medication for the nasua and the bacterial infection, which was the concluding diagnosis. I was so dehydrated because I couldn't hold anything down when I was throwing up non stop, not even a sip of water. I've never experienced anything like that before and I had never felt so homesick. The hospital was very good though and the doctors and nurses were really caring and nice. I guess that is their job, but they probably didn't know how much I appreciated it. Being taken care of was really nice. The next day, one of my friends left to go back to the capital, so it was just Olivia and I. the night before a series of unfortunate events happened when they went out. I was in the hospital so I wasn't there, so I don't know exactly what happened so I won't go into detail about it but I know it was really scary for both of them and they were both pretty shaken up. The hospital wanted to keep me another night, but I told them no- I needed to leave the next morning to go back to Phnom Penh so I absolutely had to be discharged so I could pack and be wth Olivia since there was just two of us now. They eventually agreed, I paid the bill and left. I have to say I could've stayed in that hospital for ever ... The room service was pretty nice! So was having someone check in on you so often. It's probably the safest I have felt in awhile.
That night I didn't really sleep, I just wanted the time to fly back to Thailand to come. I really couldn't wait to leave Cambodia. I was just feeling pretty anxious. The next day, I got up and got ready to catch my bus to the capital. Unfortunately, i had a message from my mom that said the hospital over charged me by 585 dollars. I had hardly any money in my bank account anyways ... So I realllllly needed that money back. Especially since that night I would need to get a hotel before my flight the next day and stuff. I still had some money in my wallet but that was all I could think of to use. It got me to my hotel in Phnom Penh, and I knew my bank account was locked so I asked if I could pay tomorrow morning instead. They said no.
So there I was, fresh outta the hospital, all alone with no money and no working bank cards. I was entering a phase of pure panic when I remembered the night before I left for Thailand. I was at home packing with my mom and dad and my dad slipped me 100 dollars "for emergencies". He taped it to a hidden spot in my luggage. Remembering this, relief washed all over me. I found the money, said a quick thank you prayer to whoever up there decided that Cambodia would use US dollars as if it's their own currency, and paid the hotel bill.
The next day, I flew to Thailand and here I am with my family. Tomorrow we leave to go to Koh Yao Noi, where my uncles house is. And then in a couple days my grandmother and I are going to Chiang Mai. It's been amazing to see family, get grounded, and rejuvenated and let my guard down.
Anywhas that's all for now, I'm off to enjoy the pool ;) thanks for reading!
