Who I am
My name is Wildes Ho, and I live in Maine. I'm a 16 year old sophomore at Mount Desert Island High School, and I live with both my parents and my little sister who's 8 years old. I live in a small town on Mount Desert Island off the coast of Maine. I love living in a small town, it creates a sense of security and comfort when you know everybody. But I also have a craving to see the rest of the world, especially Italy. Traveling is one of my biggest passions, I absolutely love to see the rest of the world and experience new cultures.
I'm applying to a semester in Italy during spring of 2013. I want to go to Italy because I visited very briefly this spring and absolutely fell in love with what I experienced in that short time. The people there are very welcoming and kind, the food is excellent, and the architecture is incredibly beautiful. Of course thats only what I saw when I visited. Living in another country is a completely different experience than traveling to visit, and I recognize that. I have a huge sense of wonder for what it would be like to live in Italy. I would be living with an Italian family and attending high school there. From this experience I expect to learn Italian fluently. I look forward to having this experience change my view of the world as well as giving me an even stronger desire to travel and learn more, if possible! :P I have no idea what exactly I want to do for a career when I grow up, but I would love to be some kind of journalist that focuses on travel. Through this experience I hope to find out more about myself and what career field I want to work in when I grow up.
Right now I play volleyball, am on the cheering team, part of Interact club, and I horseback ride and am in the process of learning how to play guitar. I love photography, yoga, hanging out with my friends, cooking and baking food, and spending time with my family. I keep myself very busy with studying, having a social life, family time, and somewhere in between that all getting enough sleep!
I want to know what it's really like to live with an Italian family and how life there truly is. I want to learn all that I can about Italy, all about their culture that you don't experience when just traveling to visit the country. After living in Italy for 6 months, I will return to my community with a new view as well as appreciation of our home here on Mount Desert Island. I will have so many stories that I will be eager to share, and I'll encourage those around me to see the world. Through out my trip I will update my blog as much as I can with pictures and posts. The full tuition for my experience in Italy is $11,200. My family and I cannot afford this on our own, and I'm doing all that I can to raise the majority of the tuition. I have applied to several scholarships and continue to do so. I started working on weekends in the middle of May, and once school gets out I will be working 6 days a week. I will continue to work into the school year until my departure. All the money I obtain will be going towards my semester abroad. Unfortunately, that will still not be enough. I hope to raise $9,000 through various methods. With this blog, my goal is $5,000. I need your help to make this experience possible. I know that times are tough, but no amount is too small. Whatever you are able to give is greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading this post and taking interest in my future dreams and plans! To sponsor my AFS program, please click the Chip In button! By doing this you can make a safe and secure non tax-deductible donation through my blog. It is greatly appreciated!
